E-book을 듣다가 알게 된 단어, shoehorn. 딱 들어도 구둣주걱이라는 뜻은 유추할 수 있는 단어이지만(shoe+horn, 신발+뿔이라니 뭔가 당연하게 구둣주걱이 연상되지 않는가!) 동사형으로 쓰이는 문장은 처음 들어서... 뜻을 찾아 보았다. 내가 들었던 문장은 대략 이런 것이었음: I managed to shoehorn a short meeting into his tight schedules. 문맥상 대충 파악은 되었지만 혹시나 해서 정확히 찾아보니, 구둣주걱이라는 뜻 외에도 "(작은 공간에) 억지로 집어넣다"라는 뜻이 있었다.
